The Liberal Initiative (IL) will file a complaint with European authorities against the More Housing program legislation as it believes it violates the principle of private property, the party’s leader, Rui Rocha, said. this Saturday.
“We have already prepared a complaint to the European authorities at this point, in the sense that we are asking for their intervention, as it is a clear violation of the principles of the European Union,” he said, noting that the process will continue once the legislation comes into effect.
Rui Rocha spoke to journalists in Funchal, at a dinner with supporters of the liberal initiative, as part of a two-day visit – today and Sunday – to the autonomous region of Madeira.
The IL leader explained that the complaint stems from the general approval of the government proposal with the measures of the More Housing Program in parliament on Friday, with only the PS voting in favour, with the various projects submitted by the opposition failing .
The Liberal initiative did not present any project in the debate, after showing availability to work in the specialty to “improve the government’s measures”, but immediately announced the vote against because it understands that the proposal of Mais Housing “dangerous gaps”, still disagree over what is proposed for local accommodation.
In Funchal, Rui Rocha highlighted three aspects he considers fundamental — the forced lease, the freeze of rents and the “destruction” of local housing — and also criticized the fact that no research has been presented on the impact of these measures . nor that the municipalities were involved in its elaboration.
“As soon as this legislation comes into force, we will file a complaint with European authorities, because these measures to destroy Local Accommodation call into question the freedom to provide services and do so without justification, without any kind of studies,” he stressed.
Rui Rocha clarified that the complaint will be sent to the European Commission and “all areas of competition”.
