The blockist coordinator, Catarina Martins, announced this Tuesday that she will no longer be deputy at the end of the current legislature, in an interview with the Lusa agency on the eve of the BE convention in which she will leave the party leadership.
In an interview with Lusa, which will be published in full on Friday, Catarina Martins felt that “it doesn’t make much sense” to stay in parliament “not already being coordinator”.
“I also understand that we have a series of files at hand, that the balance is not easy and what we decided was that I will stay until the end of this legislature, which means that while Pedro Filipe Soares is on the committee of investigation TAP , I will sit on the final constitutional review committee, but at the end of this legislative session I will leave”announced.
After nearly 14 years as a deputy, Catarina Martins said that despite leaving BE’s parliamentary bench, she will remain in the leadership of the party.
Considering that the BE will be “with a very strong parliamentary group”, the still leader of the blockade left a guarantee: “I will be in the Bloco de Esquerda, as always, I will integrate the next direction with all conviction, if my comrades choose me at the next convention, even in a different role and with a different rhythm”.
“At the moment I see myself slowing down and resting a bit, without compromising all the support, I will be very happy to support the campaign in Madeira. People understand that at the moment I do not intend to think about new candidacies or whatever, I’m just going to rest for a while”she replied when asked about the possibility of leading another BE candidacy in other elections in the future.
After “over a decade of a very intense pace and an exhibition that was also intense”the blogger felt it necessary “to have a different rhythm, to enter a different period of intervention”.
Catarina Martins was first elected as a deputy in the 2009 parliamentary elections, then as an independent on the BE lists, having already been re-elected as a militant in the next parliamentary election.
