Elements of the security forces meet to decide on protest actions

Members of the PSP, GNR, SEF, prison guards, the Maritime Police and ASAE will hold a national meeting in Lisbon this Wednesday to discuss key issues facing the security forces and services and decide on protest actions.

The national meeting of security forces is organized by the Permanent Coordinating Commission (CCP) of Trade Unions and Associations of Security Forces and Service Providers, a structure that brings together the most representative trade unions and associations in the field of internal security, and will end with a parade to the Assembly of the Republic, where a document will be delivered that the police will approve at the meeting in the D. Pedro IV auditorium, on avenue D. Carlos I.

National Secretary of the Permanent Coordination Commission, César Nogueira, who is also president of the Association of Guard Professionals (APG/GNR), told Lusa that during the meeting, elements of the security forces and services will decide on the final approval of “forms of fight”, namely holding a demonstration together.

That’s what the person in charge said elements of the security forces and services are dissatisfied and that the government “has not accepted any of the demands of the various structures”.

According to Cesar Nogueira, wages, health and terms of service are the common issues between the different structures.

The CCP decided to schedule this national meeting because of the “need of these professionals to speak up” in the face of “government indifference.”

César Nogueira also said that each security force and agency that is part of the CCP has “their own claims”, but together they have more power and recalled that “large demonstrations have already taken place within the range of the CPP”, as it was case of the 2013 protest where the police raided the steps of the Assembly of the Republic.

The Association of Guard Professionals, the Union Association of Police Professionals, the Socio-professional Association of the Maritime Police, the Union for the Career of Research and Inspection of the Foreigners and Borders Service, the National Union of the Prison Guard Corps and the Union of employees are part of ASAE’s CCP.
