This Wednesday, the President of the Republic promulgated the government diplomas on the replacement of the SEF and the transitional regime for the respective employees, foreseeing difficulties in the initial phase of the new agency.
In a note published on the Internet on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa states that he has opted for the promulgation of these diplomas “despite the difficulties that the Agency – at this initial stage – will have to deal with residence permit procedures currently pending” .
“But in search of continuity in a process that has been very long, with serious damage to the external image of the country and to the reception of those who seek us, the President of the Republic has announced the government diplomas leading to the creation of the Portuguese Agency for Migration and Asylum, IP, and approval of the transitional regime for Foreigners and Borders Service employees,” the head of state added.
These two diplomas were approved by the Council of Ministers on 6 April.
