Enough of asking Costa about the activities of the secret teams

Chega questioned the Prime Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister about the SIS’s role in recovering a computer from the Ministry of Infrastructure and is considering proposing to the Commission of Inquiry to ask the President of the Republic for an explanation.

According to the documents handed over to journalists, signed by André Ventura, nine questions were put to the Prime Minister and six to Mendonça Mendes.

Chega’s leader wants to know if the head of government had prior knowledge of the intervention of the Security Information Service (SIS) on the night of April 26 in recovering the computer in the possession of former deputy Frederico Pinheiro.

“When did you know about this intervention and who informed you?” the party also asks, wanting to know if the Prime Minister “was aware of any intervention by the Deputy Foreign Minister, António Mendonça Mendes, to the SIS” or by the Minister of Infrastructure “so that it is compatible with the SIS”.

And Costa also asks “what is the legal basis” for stating that there was no illegality in the actions of the SIS, and also whether the President of the Republic knew about the intervention of the SIS, and when?

Chega asks the Deputy Secretary of State to the Prime Minister if he has been asked to intervene with the SIS, and by whom, and if he has declared “the Minister of Infrastructure João Galamba” so that he can deal with this service express.

António Mendonça Mendes is also asked “at what time did he learn about the intervention” from the SIS, and who informed him.

Chega’s leader believed that “an answer as soon as possible is important” and pointed out that “the more durable the response is, the sooner it can be decided whether or not to have a commission of inquiry in the intelligence community”.

André Ventura also stated that Chega is “considering” proposing to the Commission of Inquiry to “ask the President of the Republic if he voluntarily agrees to transmit to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry to TAP what information the Prime Minister has given him” about what has happened. on April 26.

The aim is that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “reveal the details that the Prime Minister gave on the implementation of the ‘secrets’, which articulated [a intervenção] and how it articulated”.

Ventura explained that this request was made “not because of any suspicion on the part of the President of the Republic, but because at this point he is probably the only agent we can trust to know the truth of this action,” defending that his testimony is “relevant”. .

In the statement to journalists, Chega’s leader also criticized the implementation levels of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), as well as the proposed revision submitted today to the European Commission, which provides for an increase of more than €2,400 million in grants and 3,200 million euros in loans.

André Ventura pointed out that implementation is at 17% and considered that targets are “systematically not being met”

“We are asking the government, rather than changing the targets, rather than changing the allocation, to strengthen the implementation of the PRR, which is what we need at the moment,” he defended.

The April 26 incidents are related to Frederico Pinheiro, former deputy of Minister João Galamba, and concern complaints against the former deputy for physical assault at the Ministry of Infrastructure and the alleged theft of a laptop computer after he was fired. is being investigated by the Public Prosecution Service.

During Wednesday’s debate in the Assembly of the Republic, the Prime Minister said he did not see any form of illegality in the action of the SIS in recovering former Deputy Minister João Galamba’s computer, making sure that no government member gave any instruction or guidance for the action of that service.

António Costa also believed, to the deputies, that the SIS was acting “in an adequate, proportionate and not going beyond its powers”.
