Chega this Friday asked for an extension of the term of the parliamentary committee of inquiry into TAP for another three months, with the intention of hearing again the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, and his chief of staff, Eugénia Correia.
The party’s chairman and deputy deputy on this committee, André Ventura, presented in statements to journalists the two requests to be submitted to TAP’s parliamentary inquiry committee and which will then be considered.
Chega, according to the text made available, requests “an extension of the time period from the work of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry to the political oversight of TAP’s management”, as the hearings held were insufficient “to establish the material truth of the facts under investigation”.
“The clarifications obtained so far are not considered sufficient to safely contribute to the resolution of disagreements, if not even contradictions, which in many cases are passed on to the delegates present,” he added.
The party therefore wants the chairman of the committee to take steps “to extend the duration of the work” for a period of three months.
On May 19, the Republic’s plenary had already approved the extension of the term of operation of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry for TAP by 60 days in order to “conduct all required and agreed hearings”.
The initial date for the completion of work was 23 May, but now that this extension has been approved, it has been extended to the end of July, with the vote on the final report scheduled for 13 July.
Chega also formalized the request for a new hearing with the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba and his Chief of Staff, Eugénia Correia.
According to the text, after the hearings of João Galamba, his former assistant Frederico Pinheiro and Eugénia Correia, Chega believes that “several, obvious and unavoidable contradictions led to the alleged events verified by the Ministry of Infrastructure and to what concerns, in the result of it, of the performance of the SIS in the recovery of the work computer” of the former deputy.
