Ventura awaits investigation of Chega leaders who allegedly made threats

Chega’s president said in Santarém this Wednesday that he will await the conclusion of the investigation into alleged threats made by party leaders to a journalist and expects “the same action” from the authorities regarding the threats he receives “on a daily basis”. “.

André Ventura, who spoke to journalists on the margins of his visit to the National Agricultural Fair in Santarém, confirmed that a councilor and a Chega leader will be heard, probably this Wednesday, as part of an investigation that stems from “a complaint from a international association” which accused members of the party “of making threats against a journalist who allegedly reported on Chega in January 2021”.

“At least I have already said it and I feel that way. All imminent crimes must be investigated. I know for sure what I am about to say. There is no political leader in Portugal who is more threatened than me. There is no t. What I now expect the same action from the authorities for those who daily threaten my life and the lives of those who work at Chega,” he said.

For André Ventura, if “the way is opened” for conducting searches for a crime that threatens freedom of the press, he hopes that “the same will now happen to all those who in recent years” have threatened him and other party members.

“It’s every day on social media. People putting up guns and talking about my name and saying I was fine, it was at the cemetery,” he said.

When asked whether he admits to removing the party members involved in the case, Chega’s leader said that for him “the threats are unacceptable”, but that he must first “know in detail the problems of the process” in order to draw consequences . .
