The Prime Minister this Friday accused the PSD of using Portuguese “secrets” to wage political battles with the government, in a letter/reply to the Social Democratic leader denouncing the resignation of the Secretary General of the “Secrets” ” rejects
“Reading your letter, I understand that you do not intend to clarify anything, but only engage in a political struggle against the government, even if it is at the expense of the information system of the Portuguese Republic.[SIRP]”writes António Costa in the reply letter to Luís Montenegro, to which the Lusa office had access and which was also sent to the President of the Republic for information.
Not only does António Costa refuse the PSD leader’s challenge for the resignation of the general secretary of the SIRP, Ambassador Graça Mira Gomes. He sends two classified documents to Luís Montenegro to reiterate that in recovering a computer belonging to a former deputy of the Ministry of Infrastructure, SIS “acted not on orders, instructions or directives from any member of the government, but on its own initiative.” and correct – its direction, in collaboration with the Secretary General of the Information System of the Portuguese Republic”.
“The allegation of abuse of power by the government, by any of its members or associates, is absolutely baseless”underlined.
Costa also reminds Montenegro that the Director of SIS legally enshrined the action of the services during the hearing in the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees and encloses confidential documents in case he was not informed by PSD delegates.
“For your personal knowledge, and to admit that you have not been duly informed by the PPD/PSD deputies in the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees of the information provided there, I am enclosing two documents which classified as ‘confidential’, in which the director of the Security Information Service legally fits and describes in detail the performance of the service in this incident”writes the prime minister.
