Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) crashed on Friday during second free practice for the German MotoGP Grand Prix, the seventh race of the season, and missed direct passage to the second qualifying stage (Q2).
Oliveira crashed into the 10th corner of the German Sachsenring circuit, with about 15 minutes to go before the end of the second of two free practice sessions, and ended the day in 15th place.
Oliveira finished 0.591 seconds behind the fastest on this stage, Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati), who left Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati) in second place, just 40 thousandths of a second, with also Spaniard Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) in third place, at 0.081, despite two broken bones in the right foot.
As for the Portuguese, who is still recovering from a broken left shoulder he suffered at the Spanish GP on April 30, he was 15th in the morning session, which still contained a few drops of rain, and finished with a best 13th time in the afternoon session, marked by several crashes.
The most serious was the one involving Spaniard Marc Márquez (Honda) and Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati), who forced the session to be interrupted with three minutes remaining.
The two were fastest in the morning session.
Spaniard Raul Fernández (Aprilia), Japanese Takahaki Nakagami (Honda), Spaniard Maverick Viñales (Aprilia), Italian Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati) and Alex Márquez (Ducati) were also victims of crashes.
On Saturday, the third free practice and the two qualifying phases will be held before the sprint race scheduled for the afternoon.
The German GP is the seventh race of the season.
Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), who finished fourth today, leads the standings, 21 points ahead of Bezzecchi.
