Portugal tries to beat Iceland in Cristiano Ronaldo’s 200th match

Portugal tries this Tuesday, in Reykjavik, against Iceland, to escape at the top of Group J and get closer to Euro 2024 football, in the match that will mark Cristiano Ronaldo’s 200th game.

The captain will start at the Estádio Laugardalsvöllur, as announced by coach Roberto Martínez himself on Monday, in a match in which Portugal seeks its fourth win in the group and continue with absolute victory on the way to the next Euro Cup.

After ‘dispatching’ Bosnia-Herzegovina (3-0) on Saturday at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, the team will experience only the third duel in its history with the Icelanders, the second in Reykjavík, after October 3-1, 2010, qualifying for Euro 2012, also at the Laugardalsvöllur stadium.

This is the first meeting between the two nations since the Euro 2016 final phase, which Portugal would win, with a draw (1-1) registered in the debut match of the two teams in the competition that was played in France.

Iceland-Portugal, of the fourth day of Group J qualifying for Euro2024, is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. (6:45 p.m. local time) and will be refereed by the German Daniel Siebert.

The ‘quinas’ team leads the group with nine points, followed by Slovakia, which has seven, and Luxembourg, third, with four. Bosnia and Iceland follow with three, in fourth and fifth place, respectively, while Liechtenstein is last, with no points.

Only the top two of the group qualify for the final round of Euro 2024, which will take place in Germany.
