The Portuguese international DiogoCosta was chosen goalkeeper of the Football League team of the year, in an election made by the coaches and captains of the 18 clubs in the competition, the Football League (LPFP) reported on Tuesday.
Diogo Costa, 23, a regular in the Portuguese team, started and played the full 90 minutes in 33 of the 34 league games, missing only the reception against Portimonense, on matchday 26, due to a muscle injury to his right shoulder.
The goalkeeper has not conceded a goal in 16 league games, helping runners-up FC Porto to be the second least filtered defense, with 22 goals conceded, two more than champions Benfica.
Throughout the season, Diogo Costa also received three consecutive Goalkeeper of the Month awards.
In the II League, the captains and coaches decided to honor the 22-year-old Slovenian Domen Gril, from Académico de Viseu, as the best goalkeeper in the championship, in which he played 31 games and conceded 41 goals.
