Yuri dos Santos Vasconcelos, Brazilian soccer player, died Monday after an unusual accident in Florida, in the United States.
The 24-year-old player was hit by a car that did not stop at the STOP sign, lost control and then crashed into a wall, drove into the athlete’s residence and ran over him.
The driver and the other two passengers were not injured, while the footballer was rescued, but died at the scene. The case is being investigated by the authorities.
Lakeland United FC, where Yuri played, announced his passing and paid tribute on social media.
The club also created a fundraising page on social media to help the footballer’s family pay for the cost of transporting the body to Brazil.
Yuri dos Vasconcelos played for Lakeland United FC and also attended Faulkner University.
