The Portuguese Diogo Ribeiro won the gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly on Thursday at the World Junior Swimming Championships, which takes place in Lima, Peru.
The Portuguese swimmer finished the race in 52.03 seconds, ahead of Czech Daniel Gracik, who took silver, with 52.51, and Danish Casper Puggard, who took bronze, with 52.94.
Diogo Ribeiro had already obtained the best time in the heats and also in the semifinals of the 100-meter butterfly, assuming himself as the great candidate to win the title, which he has now confirmed.
Shortly before, the Portuguese had also secured qualification for the 50-meter freestyle final, being the second fastest in the semifinals, with 22.45 seconds, only behind Croatian Jere Hribar (22.35).
Ribeiro is registered in these World Championships for the 50 and 100 meter freestyle and for the 50, 100 and 200 meter butterfly.
The young swimmer, who shone in Rome, in the absolute Europeans, with the conquest of a bronze medal, has the national record in the 100-meter butterfly of 51.61 seconds, made precisely in the Italian capital, on August 13 .
The swimmer trained by Alberto Silva has a full program until Sunday, being able to compete every day, with the ‘objective’ of winning medals.
