The Portuguese canoeist Francisca Laia today won the bronze medal in the K1 200-meter event of the European Games, the second podium of the Portuguese mission in Krakow 2023, which is also the European championship of the modality.
The 29-year-old Olympic canoeist completed the distance in 41.058 seconds, taking bronze, behind the new European champion, the Danish Emma Jorgensen (40.106), and the Serbian runner-up Milica Novakovic (41.006).
The Olympian in Rio 2016 had won silver over the same distance at the Plovdiv Europeans in 2017, and silver in the 200-meter mixed K2, with Messias Baptista, at the 2021 World Cup in Copenhagen.
This is Portugal’s second medal in these III European Games, after Ana Cruz’s bronze in kata, a karate discipline.
The Kraków2023 European Games will take place until July 2 in Krakow and in the Polish region of Malopolska, with 30 sports on the program and 48 participating countries, including Portugal, which has a delegation of more than two hundred athletes.
