Canoeist Fernando Pimenta won the silver medal in the K1 500 meters event at the European Games this Saturday, his fifth podium in the history of the event and the third for the national team in Kraków2023.
Pimenta, who started on track seven, finished his performance in 1.37.358 minutes, behind only Hungary’s Adam Varga (1.36.212), with Serbia’s Marko Dragosavljevic in third with 1.37.806.
Fernando Pimenta, twice Olympic medalist, already had four silver medals in European Games, between K1 1,000 and K1 5,000 meters, one each in Baku2015 and Minsk2019.
This is the third medal for canoeing in Krakow 2023, following Messias Baptista’s gold in the K1 200 metres, distance where Francisca Laia took bronze, also on Friday at the Krispinów course.
Portugal now has six podiums at the European Games, namely two gold, two silver and two bronze.
The third edition of the European Games runs until July 2 in Krakow and in Poland’s Malopolska region, with 30 sports on the program and 48 participating countries, including Portugal, which has a delegation of more than 200 athletes.
