Fernando Pimenta wins silver medal in K1 500 meters

The canoeist Fernando Pimenta won this Saturday the silver medal in the K1 500 meter event at the European Games, his fifth podium in the history of the event and the third for the team in Krakow 2023.

Pimenta, who started on track seven, finished his performance in 1,37,358 minutes, only behind the Hungarian Adam Varga (1,36,212), with the Serbian Marko Dragosavljevic third, with 1,37,806.

Fernando Pimenta, a two-time Olympic medalist, already had four silver medals in European Games, between K1 1,000 and K1 5,000 meters, one in Baku 2015 and another in Minsk 2019.

This is the third canoeing medal in Krakow 2023, after Messias Baptista’s gold in K1 200 meters, a distance in which Francisca Laia took bronze, also on Friday on the Krispinów track.

Portugal now has six podium finishes at the European Games, namely two gold, two silver and two bronze.

The third edition of the European Games runs until July 2 in Krakow and in the Polish region of Malopolska, with 30 sports on the program and 48 participating countries, including Portugal, which has a delegation of more than two hundred athletes.
