The canoeists Kevin Santos and Teresa Portela won the gold medal this Saturday in the K2 200 meter mixed event of the European Games, proclaiming themselves European champions and getting the third Portuguese gold in Krakow 2023.
Starting on center track five, Santos, 2022 European champion in the K1 200, and the Olympian Portela completed the race in 34.260 seconds, ahead of the Danes Magnus Sibbersen and Emma Jorgensen, second at 0.312 seconds, and the Germans. Jacob Schopf and Lena Rohlings. , third at 0.440.
The duo was proclaimed European champion in this event since the Europeans are part of the Kraków2023 program.
This is the fourth canoeing medal in this third edition of the European Games, and the second of the day, after Fernando Pimenta obtained silver in K1 500 meters. On Friday, Messias Baptista won gold in the K1 200 meters, a distance in which Francisca Laia took bronze.
Portugal already has seven podium finishes in Krakow 2023, namely three golds, two silvers and two bronzes, adding one gold and one silver in athletics, and one bronze in karate, to the savings on the Krispinow canoeing track.
The third edition of the European Games runs until July 2 in Krakow and in the Polish region of Malopolska, with 30 sports on the program and 48 participating countries, including Portugal, which has a delegation of more than two hundred athletes.
