Kevin Santos and Teresa Portela European champion K2 200 meters

Canoeists Kevin Santos and Teresa Portela won the gold medal in the K2 200m mixed event at the European Games this Saturday, becoming European champions and taking Portugal’s third gold in Kraków2023.

Starting on central lane five, Santos, 2022 European champion in K1 200, and Olympic athlete Portela completed the race in 34.260 seconds, ahead of Danes Magnus Sibbersen and Emma Jorgensen, seconds at 0.312 seconds, and Germans Jacob Schopf and Lena Roehlings, third at 0.440.

The duo became European champions at this event as the Europeans are part of the Kraków2023 program.

This is canoeing’s fourth medal in this third edition of the European Games, and the second of the day, after Fernando Pimenta won silver in the K1 500 metres. On Friday, Messias Baptista won gold in the K1 200 meters, a distance where Francisca Laia took bronze.

Portugal now has seven podiums in Kraków2023, namely three gold, two silver and two bronze, adding one gold and one silver in athletics and one bronze in karate to the canoe course savings in Krispinow.

The third edition of the European Games runs until July 2 in Krakow and in Poland’s Malopolska region, with 30 sports on the program and 48 participating countries, including Portugal, which has a delegation of more than 200 athletes.
