Ribeira Grande goes through to the red

Continuing the surprises of the previous day, with the early elimination of Gabriela Dinis, the second day of the Allianz Ribeira Grande Pro was marked by the departure of Vasco Ribeiro. The five-time national champion fell in the third round, which precedes the “quarters”, behind Guilherme Fonseca (Opening day star) and Joaquim Chaves, winner of the previous stage (Ericeira), the first of his career.

Best to score of the day was signed by Afonso Antunes (12.55 points out of a total of 20), well supported by the 12.45 of the holder of the title, Guilherme Ribeiro. In the ladies, the best score of the day was for junior world champion Kika Veselko (12.75 points), who met Carol Mendes (winner in Ericeira) in the semifinals today.

The best wave was in the second round for Camilla Kemp (7.25 out of ten). In the next round, however, the Portuguese-German, finalist in Ribeira D’Ilhas two weeks ago, could not continue the high score, because he did not have access to the “socks”.

With a call up at 8.30am local time, the fourth of five stages of the MEO League will be decided today, with the Azores event also serving to find the winners of the Allianz Triple Crown (series of the best results from Figueira, Azores and Ribeira Grande).
