Roger Schmidt, German coach employed by Benfica, was voted the best coach of the Portuguese First League, in an election of the Portuguese Professional Football League, based on the votes of coaches and captains of the clubs, announced this Monday.
The 36 voters of the 18 emblems that competed in the Portuguese First League in 2022/2023 thus blessed the 56-year-old coach of the national champions in his first season in the Portuguese championship, in which he had also won the Best Price award three times Coach of the Month.
Roger Schmidt led Benfica to win its 38th championship, a trophy Luz has missed since 2018/2019, recording 28 wins in the 34 rounds played and a total of 87 points.
Benfica finished the I Liga with the best attack in the league and also the least drained defence.
The Lisbon club also had a positive campaign in the Champions League, where they reached the quarter-finals and were knocked out by Inter Milan.
