Portuguese Marcos Freitas won silver on Tuesday at the men’s singles tournament of the European Games Kraków 2023, losing 4-3 to Frenchman Felix Lebrun in the final.

At the Hutnik Arena, the 35-year-old Portuguese, 60th in the world ranking, lost to the 31st player in the hierarchy, just 16 years old, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5, 4-11, 5-11, 11-2 and 13-11.

It is Marcos Freitas’ third medal at the European Games, his first as an individual, after gold for teams in Baku2015 and bronze in Minsk2019, and fourth in table tennis, which also includes Fu Yu’s gold in the second edition.

The Portuguese table tennis team also has a men’s and a women’s formation in the respective team tournaments.

Portugal now has 13 podiums in Kraków2023, namely three gold, seven silver and three bronze, four of which were won today (two silver in muaythai, another in fencing and this one in table tennis).

The third edition of the European Games will run until Sunday in Krakow and in Poland’s Malopolska region, with 30 sports on the program and 48 participating countries, including Portugal, which has a delegation of more than 200 athletes.
