Mourinho is suspended for ten days and will miss two matches in the Italian league

Portuguese coach José Mourinho, who coaches Roma, has been suspended for 10 days and will miss the first two rounds of the Italian football league, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced in a statement on Wednesday.

The FIGC disciplinary committee explains that the start of the suspension is the start of Serie A 2023/24, on August 19 and 20, which in practice obliges the Romans to start the first two games without Mourinho.

The Portuguese has been sanctioned for saying on May 3 that Monza-Roma referee Daniele Chiffi was “the worst referee I’ve ever met in my entire career” for the championship.

Coach and club still have to pay a fine of 50,000 euros each.

A week ago, Mourinho was already familiar with another penalty, but this one imposed by UEFA, which prevents him from accompanying Roma four games in European competitions for “offensive” behavior towards the English referee Anthony Taylor in the final of the Liga Football Europe .

At the beginning of the month, UEFA had filed a lawsuit against the coach, in a long list of cases referring to the final, which Sevilla won on penalties (4-1) after a 1-1 draw in regular time and extra time.

After the final, footage was released of Mourinho appearing to be rioting against Anthony Taylor still in the garage of the Puskas Arena, in Budapest, and the following day the referee was harassed by fans at the airport, along with his family.
