Dutch driver Dilano van’t Hoff dies in Formula Regional European race in Belgium

Dutch driver Dilano van’t Hoff died today aged 18 after a collision during the European Regional Formula race at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Belgium, the team he represented announced.

“MP Motorsport is deeply saddened to confirm that our driver Dilano van’t Hoff has passed away following an accident during the second European Formula Regional race at Spa-Francorchamps,” the team said in a statement.

In the document, the Netherlands-based team mourned the death of one of “the brightest Dutch talents”.

“We offer our sincere condolences to Dilano’s family and loved ones and we fully support them, as well as our team members, who have lost not only a pilot, but also a friend,” concluded the MP.

In a statement shared on its website, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) also mourns the death of the pilot.

Van’t Hoff died after a multi-car collision, exiting the Raidillon corner and entering the Kemmel straight, in a situation similar to the one that killed Frenchman Anthoine Hubert in 2019 .

The accident happened in limited visibility due to the water on the circuit and just before the end of the race, with about two minutes left until the end of the race.

The race, the second of the weekend, supported the Spa 24 Hours, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli taking his first victory in the eight contested rounds.
