The second edition of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) World Beach Games, scheduled to take place in Bali, Indonesia, in August, were canceled due to the withdrawal of the organizing country’s Olympic Committee, the organization announced Tuesday.
“ANOC – Association of National Olympic Committees – announced today that the II ANOC Bali 2023 World Beach Games have been canceled due to the withdrawal of the Indonesian Olympic Committee from hosting the competition,” the statement read.
Less than a month after the scheduled start, the ANOC reported that “it will not be possible to find an alternative, so both the World Beach Games and the General Assembly, which were to be held in August, are cancelled.”
ANOC added that it received this news with “great surprise and extreme disappointment”, and that it will look for a new place and date for the General Assembly.
And he explained that the withdrawal of the Indonesian Olympic Committee occurred after the government of that Asian country did not make the necessary funds available to carry out the event, but he was surprised by this position, after several preparatory meetings in which he was never in question the cancellation of the contest.
