Eco-environmental protesters of the Just stop using oil interrupted the Wimbledon tennis tournament this Wednesday.
It was during a match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and Japanese Sho Shimabukuro that activists Deborah Wilde and Simon Milner-Edwards court number 18 when they came out confetti orange, the color that identifies the action group. This incident even led to a suspension of the game.
“We can’t leave it to the next generation to take care of things”said activists of the Just stop using oilsaid the British newspaper Independent.
“I’m just a grandmother who opposes this government’s policy of issuing new gas and oil permits. We had the hottest June on record, we don’t need a hawk’s eye to see that it is very bad to have 100 new fossil fuel permits fuels,” Deborah said. Wilde, quoted by the Raquetc portal.
“I’m here for my grandchildren and everyone else, I won’t let our politicians tear it apart and let the next generation pick up the pieces. The least I want to do is spoil people’s fun at Wimbledon, but well now, in Central Court, is humanity vs oil and gas,” Milner-Edwards added.
Just after sitting on the court as a form of protest, the activists were forcibly removed.

Activism is important, but that’s not how you approach it.
I don’t see how this is useful or productive for their purpose. pic.twitter.com/MSeh6NYByR
