Australian cyclist Jai Hindley (BORA-hansgrohe) is the new yellow jersey of the 110th Tour de France, having won, from numerous breakaways of the day, the fifth stage, with Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) climbing second in the general.
The winner of the 2022 Giro, who was part of a 36-rider breakaway, was the first to complete the 162.7 kilometers between Pau and Laruns, in 03:57.07, ahead of Italian Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) and the Austrian Felix Gall (AG2R Citroën), second and third respectively, 32 seconds behind.
Fifth in the stage, 34 seconds behind, Vingegaard, who attacked the Col de Marie-Blanque ascent, the last of the difficulties of the first day in the Pyrenees, put the Slovenian rival Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) ahead by more than a minute, and he moved up to second overall, Hindley’s 47th. Ciccone is third at 01.03 minutes.
On Thursday, the sixth stage reserves the first finish at the top of the 110th Tour de France, with 144.9 kilometers starting in Tarbes and ending in Cauterets-Cambasque, the finish line coinciding with a first-class mountain count.
