Australian cyclist Jai Hindley (BORA-hansgrohe) is the new yellow jersey of the 110th Tour de France, having won stage five after the day’s many breakaways with Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) taking second overall.
The winner of the Giro2022, who was part of a breakaway of 36 participants, was the first to cover the 162.7 kilometers between Pau and Laruns in 03:57.07, ahead of Italy’s Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) and Austria’s Felix Gall (AG2R Citroën), second and third respectively, 32 seconds away.
Fifth on the podium, 34 seconds behind, Vingegaard, who attacked on the climb to the Col de Marie-Blanque, the last of the first day’s difficulties in the Pyrenees, gained more than a minute over Slovenian rival Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), and advanced to second overall, Hindley’s 47th. Ciccone is third at 01.03 minutes.
This Thursday, stage six will be the first summit finish of the 110th Tour de France, with the 144.9 kilometers starting in Tarbes and ending in Cauterets-Cambasque, with the finish coinciding with the number of first category mountains.
