The Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull) won this Saturday the seventh pole position of the season, at the British Grand Prix, round 11 of 2023.
The current world champion made his best time, with 1.26.720 minutes, leaving the British Lando Norris (McLaren) in second place, with 0.241 seconds, with the Australian Óscar Piastri (McLaren) third, with 0.372.
This was the seventh pole position in ten races held in Max Verstappen’s season -the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, in the sixth round, was cancelled, so only 10 of the 11 races were held-, the 27th of his career and the fifth in a row.
“We know we have a fast car, so we have to go 100%,” Verstappen stressed, at the end of a session that started with rain, but saw the track dry out over time.
On this occasion, the Ferraris surpassed the two Mercedes, with the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) in fourth position, at 0.416 seconds, with his teammate, the Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), fifth, at 0.428.
Britain’s George Russell (Mercedes) was sixth, followed by his teammate and compatriot Lewis Hamilton.
Worse luck was for the Mexican Sérgio Pérez (Red Bull), who did not go beyond 16th position, despite having been second in free practice.
The British GP race is held on Sunday.
Max Verstappen arrives at this race leading the championship, with 229 points, compared to 148 for Sérgio Pérez, who is second.
