José Mourinho, the Portuguese coach who supervises the Romans, watched the game from the bench when he was suspended, with obvious joy, as this is the first victory of the ‘Wolves’ in the clashes with the ‘Nerazzurri’ in San Siro in the last five years.
Mourinho, since the summer of last year in Rome, has already played three times against Inter, always with defeats.
Now on matchday eight of Serie A, Roma – with Rui Patrício in goal – confirmed their candidacy for first place, at the same time as the mighty Inter extended the crisis, reaching their fourth loss in eight games.
Inter remain seventh, with 12 points, already 12 points behind leaders Napoli, today a 3-1 winner against Torino.
Federico di Marco gave Inter the lead 30 minutes into the game, after which the home side’s defensive weaknesses became apparent. Roma scored twice via Paulo Dybala (39), a pass from Leonardo Spinazzola and a header from Chris Smalling (75).
Roma had some luck in the game, however, as Edin Dzeko saw a goal disallowed and Hakan Calhanoglu sent a free kick straight to the post.
