Benfica footballer David Neres has been punished with a one match suspension, the Disciplinary Board (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced on Tuesday, and will miss the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup against FC Porto.
On May 30, the FPF CD started a disciplinary process at the Brazilian extreme, after Neres had been the protagonist of some provocations at the celebration of the title won by Benfica.
During the celebration of the ‘Eagle’ title, David Neres posted provocative remarks on the Instagram social network to Portuguese international midfielders Otávio, from FC Porto, and Pedro Gonçalves, from Sporting, and to the two rival clubs, who eventually in second and fourth place in the I Liga.
Neres was eventually punished with a match suspension by the CD of the FPF for “injuries and reputational violations”, in addition to a fine of 510 euros, which excludes him from the first official match of the season, the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, which on 8 or 9 August against FC Porto, in Aveiro.
At the time of the situation, the “dragons” revealed that they intend to continue competing with David Neres, taking into account what happened in the 2021/22 season, when players Diogo Costa, Wilson Manafá, Fábio Cardoso and Otávio were sanctioned with a suspension match, given the insulting chants chanted at the ‘eagles’ during the championship celebrations.
