Fabio Jakobsen withdraws from the Tour due to a crash in the fourth stage

Dutch cyclist Fabio Jakobsen will not participate in the 12th stage of the Tour de France, as he has not recovered from the injuries after a crash in the fourth stage, Soudal Quick-Step announced today.

“Due to my crash in the fourth stage, we have decided, after consultation with the team, that it is better to stop my Tour de France journey here. At the moment it seems impossible to reach Paris, as I am not recovering and my body does not heal from the fall,” said the European long distance champion, quoted in a statement from the team.

Jakobsen, one of the best sprinters of our time, crashed on the approach to the finish, already on the Nogaro circuit, and since then the 26-year-old cyclist has struggled to complete the stages.

“I am very sad to leave the ‘Grande Boucle’ because I had big goals for this race and I wanted to be at my best. Now I will take some time to recover and clear my head,” he said . hopes to get back to the best level “later in the season”.

Jakobsen won a stage in the last edition of the Tour, with five wins in the Vuelta.

Today’s 12th stage of the Tour de France connects Roanne and Belleville-en-Beaujolais, over a distance of 168.8 kilometers.
