Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic won her first Grand Slam title on Saturday by defeating Tunisian Ons Jabeur in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the Wimbledon final.
Vondrousova, 24 years old and 42nd in the world ranking, surpassed the sixth in the hierarchy in just one hour and 22 minutes.
The Czech player was the first unseeded player to appear in the Wimbledon final in the Open era (since 1968) and the first after Billie Jean King, in 1963.
Vondrousova was the third Czech woman to win Wimbledon, after Jana Novotna and Petra Kvitova.
