Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) strengthened the lead of the Tour de France today by winning the stage 16 time trial 01.38 minutes ahead of Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates).
The yellow jersey and defending champion completed the 22.4 kilometers between Passy and Combloux, including a second-class mountain count, in 32.36 minutes, relegating his ‘runner-up’ overall to second and his teammate Belgian Wout van Aert to third, at 02:51 minutes.
On Wednesday, Vingegaard will face the final trip in the Alps, a 165.7km route between Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc and Courchevel with some special mountains and two firsts, with a lead of 01.48 minutes over Pogacar. Britain’s Adam Yates (UAE Emirates) moved up to third overall at 08:52.
