Australia and New Zealand will host the ninth Women’s World Cup, the first for the Portuguese team and the last for Brazil’s Marta (37 years old) and American Megan Rapinoe (38). Today at Eden Park, in Auckland, New Zealand welcomes Norway to the opening of the tournament in which the US defends the title.
Choosing between Catarina Macario, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson and Sophia Smith – the team’s new star – is the big fight for US coach Vlatko Andonovski, who wants to give another world trophy to the team with the most titles (1991, 1995, 2015 and 2019). Trinity Rodman, daughter of former NBA basketball player Dennis Rodman, is one of the faces of the new American generation, which has become a beating target for the 32 teams in the league – 20 more than those who made history in the first edition.
