Chamber buys Portugal Cup won by Aves at auction

The Portuguese Football Cup trophy won by Desportivo das Aves in 2017/2018 was sold at auction today for 30,000 euros to the Municipality of Santo Tirso, where the parish of Vila das Aves is located.

“We could not allow a trophy of such relevance in the history of sport in the municipality to be in the possession of a private person, perhaps someone with no connection to Vila das Aves or the club, so the Santo Tirso municipality made a point to prevent this from happening,” the president of that municipality, Alberto Costa, emphasized in a statement.

Conquered on May 20, 2018, with a victory over Sporting in the final of the ‘Queen’ competition (2-1), in Estádio Nacional, in Oeiras, the scepter has been auctioned since August 4 at public auction on the e-auction portal on internet, in the context of the bankruptcy of SAD Nortenha.

A ‘bis’ by Alexandre Guedes, against a goal by Colombian Fredy Montero, ‘sealed’ an unprecedented success for the northerners, then led by José Mota, just five days after the invasion of the Alcochete Academy, where fans saw several ‘Leonine’ attacked players.

The auction was administered by the Judicial Court of the Porto District and took place today until 10 a.m., having established an opening price of 800 euros and a base value of 1,600 euros, 1,360 euros as the minimum threshold accepted for the acquisition of the trophy. .

In the closing minutes, a series of consecutive bids increased the value of the best offer, which came to 30,000 euros, contrary to the wish of the re-established Desportivo das Aves 1930 to salvage the Portuguese Cup snatched by the extinct SAD.

The greatest achievement in the history of the Avense emblem was arrested for SAD in July 2020, when the administration led by China’s Wei Zhao failed to meet licensing requirements in the professional leagues of the 2020/21 season with the Club League and the appeal to the club rejected the Judicial Council of the Portuguese Football Federation.

The Northerners had already been relegated to the II League, but ‘fell’ administratively into the Portuguese Championship, then third national level, hit by salary debts and unilateral termination of players, technical team and employees.

SAD, which also witnessed the arrest of the two buses of Desportivo das Aves, chose to withdraw from participation in the Portuguese Championship in September 2020, five months before it was declared insolvent by the Santo Tirso District Court. declared.

SAD’s debts of nearly €37,500 to three foreign clubs led FIFA to prevent the club from registering new players since August 2020, but António Freitas’ management decided two months later to re-establish the futsal and football hall, which came to represent the new club. called Desportivo das Aves 1930.
