Lopetegui leaves Wolverhampton six days before the first game of the season

The Spanish Julen Lopetegui ceases to be the manager of Wolverhampton as of this Tuesday, the English soccer league club announced, through a statement published on the official website.

The official termination of the contract that united the two parties occurs six days before the official debut of the Wolverhampton team this season, against Manchester United, in the first round of the Premier League.

The statement said that the Spanish coach and the club “acknowledged and accepted their differences of opinion on certain issues,” without elaborating on those differences.

However, if the English press is to be believed, the former FC Porto coach, who joined the English team in November 2022, wanted to leave due to the lack of reinforcements in this transfer window.

“I wish Wolverhampton and everyone at the club the best of luck for the future and I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given to take charge of this wonderful club,” Lopetegui said in a statement posted on Wolverhampton’s website.

Wolves are the English team with the most Portuguese players: goalkeeper José Sá, defenders Nélson Semedo and Toti Gomes, midfielder Matheus Nunes and forwards Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto and Fábio Silva.
