Benfica and FC Porto discuss the first trophy of the season in Aveiro

The Portuguese soccer champion, Benfica, and the winner of the Portuguese Cup, FC Porto, will fight this Wednesday for the conquest of the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup, at the Estádio Municipal de Aveiro.

After some weaknesses revealed in the preseason, the eagles and dragons have the first big test of the new season, with the focus on new faces, although the basic structure of the two teams must be maintained.

If the national champion was more exuberant in the signings, by sending home the Argentine Ángel Di María and reinforcing the midfield with the Turkish Orkun Kokçu and the left wing with the Czech David Jurásek, the holder of the queen competition took control of the midfielder Spaniard Nico González and compatriot striker Fran. Navarrese.

At Benfica, coach Roger Schmidt is expected to launch the three reinforcements, in addition to Musa, to replace the Portuguese international striker Gonçalo Ramos, who left for Paris Saint-Germain on Monday.

At FC Porto, led by Sérgio Conceição, there are doubts about the starting role of goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who is recovering from physical problems, and could come up with a big surprise in attack. With Evanilson out due to injury, it will be Fran Navarro or his compatriot Toni Martínez who keep Iranian Taremi company.

As for Super Cup victories, the usual destination has been the Estádio do Dragão, given the 23 trophies the dragons have accumulated, more than all the other winners combined: Sporting (nine), Benfica (eight), Boavista (three) and Vitória de Guimaraes (one).

The 45th edition of the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup begins at 8:45 p.m. at the Estádio Municipal de Aveiro.
