Venceslau Fernandes expelled from the 84th edition of the Tour of Portugal

The Portuguese cyclist Venceslau Fernandes ((AP Hotels&Resorts-Tavira-Farense) was expelled this Monday from the 84th Tour of Portugal, with the commissioners evoking an aggravated infraction, more specifically “de facto routes between riders”.

After the end of the fifth stage, won by his teammate Delio Fernández, the 27-year-old rider was expelled, the sports commissioners mentioning an assault, without specifying the other rider involved.

However, the statement of the diatribe mentions that the Spanish Óscar Pelegrí (Burgos-BH) was fined for “dangerous behavior between runners”, the article of the sanction being the same one that led to the expulsion of Venceslau Fernandes.

The Galician Delio Fernández has won the fifth stage today, a link of 184.3 kilometers between Mação and Alto da Torre, and leads the general with five seconds ahead of the Swiss Colin Stüssi, Sui (Voralberg) and 10 over the Spanish Txomin Juaristi (Euskaltel-Euskadi), who were, respectively, second and third overall, the same positions they occupied in the stage.
