Nych begins defending the yellow on the day of arrival at Larouco

The Russian cyclist Artem Nych (Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor) will set off this Thursday for the seventh stage of the 84th Tour of Portugal, reaching the top of Larouco, dressed in yellow, while the peloton returns to the road after resting.

After the rest day, Nych, 28, will have the first test of his leadership, in the 162.6 kilometers that separate the Torre de Moncorvo from the highest point of Montalegre, the finish line coinciding with a first-class mountaineering count.

The peloton leaves the town of the district of Bragança at 00:40 hours towards the second category mountain count of Vila Flor, located at kilometer 20.8.

The first flying goal of the day, in Valpaços (66.7), precedes the third category climb to Alto do Barracão (81), followed by the intermediate sprint in Boticas (116.3).

The 109 cyclists remaining in the race will start, shortly after, the ascent to Torneiros, a first category of 4.6 kilometers in length.

Once in Montalegre, the peloton finds the third flying goal of the course (149.2), with the almost 10-kilometre climb up Serra do Larouco ending at 5:30 p.m.

Artem Nych leads the general classification, with the Spanish Delio Fernández (AP Hotels&Resorts-Tavira-Farense), 27 seconds, and the Swiss Colin Stüssi (Voralberg), 30.
