The Portuguese international João Moutinho will reinforce FC Porto. TO TSF knows that the midfielder has already passed the medical examinations to join the dragons and the official return will take place between this Friday and Sunday.
SC Braga was an opportunity for the athlete to continue his career, but the president of FC Porto, Pinto da Costa, convinced the midfielder to return to Dragão.
João Moutinho, 36 (he will be 37 in less than a month), returns to FC Porto ten years after leaving the club to play for Monaco at that time.
The Portuguese midfielder began his professional career at Sporting, where he graduated. For the lions, João Moutinho played 243 games and scored 30 goals between 2004 and 2010, even wearing the León captain’s armband. In the summer of 2010, and after disagreements with the then president of Sporting, José Eduardo Bettencourt, the midfielder was transferred to FC Porto for 11 million euros. For the history of this signing is the press conference of the Leonese leader in which he nicknamed the player “rotten apple”.
The player joined André Villas-Boas’s team that won the championship, the Portuguese Cup, the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup and the Europa League. He spent two more years under the orders of Vítor Pereira. He added 140 games, in which he scored ten goals.
In the summer of 2013, the midfielder signed for Monaco, in a package that included James Rodríguez and which contributed 80 million euros to Porto’s coffers. Even so, the value of the Portuguese transfer was 25 million euros.
The midfielder played 219 games with the club from the principality, where he scored 11 goals between 2013 and 2018. That year he signed for 5.6 million euros at Wolverhampton. In England he scored five goals in 212 games.
João Moutinho is the second Portuguese player with the most caps, behind Cristiano Ronaldo. With the senior team, the midfielder played 146 games and scored seven goals, having participated in one Confederations Cup, two World Cups and four European Championships. He is one of the 2016 European champions, having set up Éder’s goal in the final against France.
