Portugal’s Francisco Belo and Tsanko Arnaudov were eliminated from the weight throw of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Saturday when they finished qualifying in 27th and 30th place respectively.
Francisco Belo threw the device at 19.24 meters in his first attempt – and the only valid one -, while Tsanko Arnaudov started with a clear shot and later improved to 19.03 and 19.17.
Both fell short of their best figures of the year, 20.64 in the case of Belo, who still took 13th place in London 2017 as the best ranking in the three World Cups he participated in, and 20.17 for the record holder national , which also achieved the best performance in four appearances in the British capital, where it finished ninth.
Seven pitchers qualified directly for the final (21.40), which will be played next Saturday at the National Athletics Center, with the last being North American Ryan Crouser, who already broke the world record three times this year, with 21.48. The last catch was Italian Leonardo Fabbri, with a throw of 20.74.
The shot put final takes place this Saturday at the Centro Nacional de Atletismo and starts at 8:37 PM local time (7:37 PM in Lisbon).
