Jorge Martin penalized with long lap for incident with Oliveira

Jorge Martin (Ducati) was penalized with a long lap in the next race for “irresponsible driving” in this Saturday’s Austrian MotoGP GP sprint race, in which he caused an incident that led to the retirement of Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia).

The Spanish rider was penalized for the way he tackled the first corner of the Spielberg circuit, causing a carom that led to the crash of several riders, including Portugal’s Miguel Oliveira, who was forced to retire.

The incident also affected Johann Zarco (Ducati), Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati), Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) and Enea Bastianini (Ducati).

The rider from Madrid thinks the sanction is unjustified.

“There were other drivers who caused a lot of confusion in the first few laps and there was no penalty. Now they have penalized me. [o critério]George Martin said.

The Spanish rider mainly questions the postponement of the decision.

“They had 14 rounds to punish me, but no. They have now penalized me, that I don’t have the weapons to fight against it,” underlined Jorge Martin.

Former rider Valentino Rossi, owner of the VR46, the team of Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati), who had incidents with Jorge Martin today, also criticized the race management for not deciding during the race.

Still, Jorge Martin denied responsibility for the first incident.

“There was a pilot who came from abroad [da pista], the track completely changed inwards and that caused Fabio Quartararo to close his track and we hit each other. It was chaos from there.”

The Spanish rider would finish the sprint race in third, 5.045 seconds behind the winner, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).
