The new world champions have already arrived home. Almost 18,000 kilometers later, the Spanish women’s soccer team was received on Monday with an apotheosis in the capital. For two hours, the team toured the streets of Madrid in a panoramic bus. The trip ended in the Puente del Rey gardens, where each player was called individually.

Captain Olga Carmona, scorer of the title goal in the final and who lost her father before the decisive match, did not hide her mixed emotions. “The day is very special for all of Spain but it also has a difficult part for me. It was a day full of emotions, at times it was the best day of my life, and then it turned into the worst”, said the Real Madrid player.
Pedro Sánchez received the team in Moncloa this morning. The President of the Spanish Government recalled that this unprecedented title in women’s football comes after the World Cup won in 2010 by the men’s team in South Africa.
“Women’s football, women’s sport has a bright future, a bright future ahead and I think the only thing we can say is that we, as representatives of Spanish society, is that Spain is proud of you,” he praised.
In Sydney, Spain beat England 1-0, an Olga Carmona goal in the 29th minute was enough to confirm the first women’s football title.
