Benavente was punished with disqualification and relegation from the first division of the district futsal championship of Santarém after the 60-0 defeat against Mação in May, the football association of that district announced on Monday.

In a statement, the Associação de Futebol (AF) of Santarém announced the punishment of Benavente with “disqualification, lower division and fine of 300.00 euros (three hundred euros)”, as the club has “nos. 1 and 2 of the law” had violated. Article 69 and paragraph 2 of Article 49, both of the Disciplinary Regulations of the Associação de Futebol de Santarém”.

According to the disciplinary regulations of the AF de Santarém, paragraph 1 of article 69 stipulates that “the club that, without justifiable reason and in an official match, presents a team on the field that is notoriously inferior to the main team and such defect does not correspond to the provision of article 53., shall be punished with a fine of 200.00 euros to 500.00 euros”.

Number 2 of the same article states that “if the offense occurs in any of the last three matches of a competition played for points, the club will be penalized under the terms of number 2 of Article 49”, which states that “If the unjustified failure to appear in one of the last three games of a competition to be played for points, the club will be punished with disqualification in the relevant competition, loss of division and a fine of 300.00 euros”.

On May 11, the Disciplinary Board of the Santarém AF had opened a disciplinary process to investigate the facts that took place in Mação’s victory over Benavente, 60-0, in the last round, allowing the former to win the district futsal. championship.

Five days earlier, Mação had achieved an unusual result against an opponent that had only three athletes on the field, including two juniors, claiming that the change in the schedule prevented the other futsal players from taking part in the meeting.

To become district champions, Mação had to beat Benavente and recover from a 33-goal difference with Vitória de Santarém, who was leading with the same points at the start of the last round.

However, despite finishing the competition on a level with main rivals, Vitória found themselves in second place, as Mação finished the championship with a 27-goal lead, compared to the aforementioned 60-0 victory over Benavente, who went on to win the championship. eighth place.

Benavente said at the time that they had informed Santarém AF of the lack of players for the meeting, due to the change in its schedule, with no response from the association.
