The Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML) withdrew this Wednesday with the intention of cutting back on sports sponsorship and will allow the plan to remain in place for the year 2023, and in 2024 the plan will also be maintained, albeit with assistance from the government.
The announcement was made after a meeting between Ana Jorge, the SCML provider, and João Paulo Correia, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, to discuss the matter. In a statement, the government underlined that none of the sponsorships are related to the Olympic and Paralympic programs, with a view to the Paris Games, which will take place next year.
Last week, the SCML warned several sports federations about the need to review the sponsorship plan, justifying the decision with “the economic and social situation” that “posed new social and financial demands on SCML regarding the support of the most vulnerable populations. vulnerable”.
Later on, he would ultimately ensure that the revision of the sponsorship plan would not jeopardize the Olympic project, something that has now been confirmed taking into account the government statement.
