This Saturday, the canoeist Teresa Portela was eighth in the final of the K1 500 meters of the World Championship in Duisburg, Germany, a result that practically qualifies Portugal for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
On track three, and with six places at stake for the Games, Portela completed the race in 1.52.436 minutes, in eighth position, in a race won by the New Zealander Lisa Carrington, with 1.47.769, while the silver medal it went to the Danish Emma Aastrand Jorgensen (1,49,102) and the bronze for the Hungarian Tamara Csipes (1,50,699).
The Portuguese canoeist is now waiting for the International Federation to make the last steps to confirm the vacancy, in what constitutes “a pro forma”, according to her own statements to Lusa.
If confirmed, this will be the second Olympic classification achieved by canoeing in the Duisburg World Cup, after Fernando Pimenta in K1 1,000 meters, in a test that brings together some two thousand athletes from 95 countries.
