The PAN accused the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) of underestimating the case involving the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and a player from the Spanish national team and wants the Government to rule.
In a request addressed to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, as well as to the Vice Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, the People-Animals-Nature Party begins by saying that this Saturday is the International Day of Women’s Equality, a date that it aims to celebrate the achievements of women, “but there is no doubt that there is still a long way to go to achieve effective equality.
Then, alluding to the controversy that has marked the world of women’s football, especially in Spain, the PAN demands that the Government rule on “the devaluation”, as it writes in the lawsuit, of the FPF to the case.
“What is the position of the Government before the devaluation on the part of the FPF of the case of harassment that involves the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, and the Spanish player Jenni Hermoso?”, asks the PAN member.
For the PAN, the “absence of a position of condemnation” by the Portuguese federation is “serious”, and wants the Ministry to say what measures it intends to take to “guarantee that similar cases are treated with due seriousness by the Portuguese sports organizations”. “.
Recalling that Portugal and Spain are candidates, together with Morocco, to organize the 2030 World Cup, the PAN asks the guardianship how it will guarantee that the FPF “adequately represents the values of gender equality”.
At the base of this controversy is the episode involving Luis Rubiales and Jenni Hermoso.
The president of the Spanish federation kissed the international player on the mouth after the Spanish team won the World Cup title.
Several personalities, athletes and associations linked to soccer demanded the resignation of Rubiales who announced that he will not resign.
The Secretary of State and president of the Higher Sports Council of Spain, Víctor Francos, filed a complaint against Rubiales in the Administrative Court and said that for the Government the divorce with the current presidency of the Federation is clear.
On Friday, Jenni Hermoso denied the version given by the RFEF president, assuring that “at no time” did she agree to the kiss she received on the mouth and, along with the World Champions, announced that she refused to be called up.
On Thursday, questioned by Lusa, an official source from the FPF downplayed the impact of the controversy over the joint candidacy between Portugal, Spain, Ukraine and Morocco.
“The candidacy for the 2030 World Cup is a project that is above any person or position,” said the same source.
