Fernando Pimenta runner-up of K1 5000 in his third podium

The canoeist Fernando Pimenta won this Sunday the silver medal in the 5,000-meter K1 event at the German World Championship, his third podium in as many competitions in Duisburg.

The limíes completed his regatta in 20.09.974 minutes, 14.507 seconds behind the winner, the Danish Mads Brandt Pedersen, while the bronze medal went to the German Nico Paufler.

In these World Championships, Pimenta won gold in the Olympic K1 1000 meters and bronze in the K1 500.

Portugal ends the World Championship with a total of four podiums, also highlighting the title of João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista in the equally Olympic K2 500 meters.

The athlete guarantees, in statements to journalists, that he works to “obtain excellent results.”

Fernando Pimenta underlines that during the next week he will participate in the Marathon World Championship, “at the home” of Mads Brandt Pedersen, promising to “revenge” the Dane there.

“Now I have the Marathon World Cup at his house next week and we are going to have our revenge,” he challenges.

The Portuguese admits that he managed to “do it better and go faster”, but he preferred not to risk it for fear of falling and hurting himself.

“Know that this Dane is very specialist, he is very tough in this type of competition, I tried to keep up with him. Once he got away from me. Inside the kayak and in the toll, I never wanted to risk too much.” he confesses.
