Darwin Nuñez came off the bench to score twice in the last ten minutes as Liverpool, down to just ten men, beat Newcastle 2–1 at St. James’ Park after an apparent defeat.
Anthony Gordon pounced on a mistake by Trent Alexander-Arnold to put the Magpies ahead before Virgil van Dijk was sent off for bringing down Alexander Isak. Within half an hour, Liverpool saw themselves lost and reduced to ten, leaving coach Jurgen Klopp on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
But Newcastle failed to assert their numerical advantage and were penalized as Nuñez produced two quality moments that have been rare in his Liverpool career to date, turning the game upside down.

Liverpool spent a record £85million to sign Darwin Nuñez from Benfica just over a year ago, but the Uruguayan trailed Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo in the race to become Jurgen Klopp’s favorite number nine earlier this season after he was disappointed in his debut season.
But this Sunday, Nuñez came off the bench thirteen minutes before time and made the most of the opportunity. He was thrown behind the Newcastle defense twice and both times he kept his cool, firing low and hard at goal.
