Rubiales’ mother locks herself in the church and goes on hunger strike for the “inhumane hunting” of her son

Ángeles Béjar, mother of the suspended president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, has locked herself in a church in Motril, Spain, and has declared a hunger strike until a solution to the “inhumane hunt” is found. and bloody” that he considers doing to the child.

For now, the confinement in the church in the Capuchinos neighborhood, in Motril, will be “indefinite, day and night”, until justice is done for her son, Rubiales’ mother told the EFE news agency. The Spanish was suspended this Saturday by FIFA after the controversy after the kiss on the mouth to the player of the Spanish women’s soccer team Jenni Hermoso.

The woman remained inside the parish church with her sister after the local priest left the building and asked Jenni Hermoso to “tell the truth” and “maintain the version she had at the beginning of the events.”

For Ángeles Béjar “there is no sexual abuse, since there is consent from both parties, as shown in the images.” Rubiales’ mother also asked “why are they taking it out on him” and what “is behind all this story”, since, for her, her son “is incapable of harming anyone”.

Spanish soccer has been involved in controversy since August 20, when, at the end of the match that crowned the Spanish women’s soccer team world champion, in Sydney, at the time of the awards ceremony, Luis Rubiales kissed on the mouth to Jenni Hermoso, while celebrating.

Numerous criticisms of what happened followed, with the player stating that she had not consented to the kiss, after a first version said that everything had happened at a time of greater euphoria.

After several days with much criticism from different sectors of society, the RFEF held an Extraordinary General Assembly this Friday in which Rubiales’ resignation was expected.

However, Luis Rubiales did not resign, giving rise to a new peak of opposition and extreme positions, with the players of the national team announcing that they are not available to represent Spain again, while the current leaders of the RFEF remain in their positions.

On Saturday, FIFA announced the suspension of Rubiales from his position for 90 days. The second vice president of Spain and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, will meet this Monday with the president of the majority women’s soccer union (Futpro), Amanda Gutiérrez, with representatives of the Association of Spanish Soccer Players and with a delegation from the Women’s Soccer League.

The Spanish women’s soccer coach, Jorge Vilda, lamented this Saturday the “inadequate behavior” of the RFEF president, after winning the 2023 World Cup, and assumed that the leader tarnished the historic feat of the red.

Meanwhile, 11 members of Jorge Vilda’s technical team resigned, including assistants, analysts and coaches.
